How to start

Count each duckling once, choose the matching amount, then check. Later, include a hiding duckling, recount after one joins or leaves, or find a position in the parade.

What your child practices

One-to-one counting, keeping track of hidden quantities, noticing one more or less, and using ordinal position.

Make it easier or try a challenge

A gentler start

Begin with Count 1 to 3. Point to one duckling for each number and compare with the dots on the answer card.

A little more thinking

Predict the total when one joins or leaves before recounting. In the position task, show how third in line differs from three ducklings altogether.

These are ways to support or extend play together. Your child can point, act, or explain; saying the answer aloud is optional.

Little hints & worksheet answers

Have you counted every duckling once, including the one you saw hiding?

For a worksheet, match its picture and age before opening a hint or answer.

Try it away from the screen

Line up three to five large toys. Cover one without moving it and count the whole line. Uncover to check, then find the third toy starting from the left.
