Different children. Different ways in

We want disabled and neurodivergent children and their families to be able to take part. This page explains our target, current limits, and how to report a barrier.

Scope and standard

Our target is WCAG 2.2 Level AA for the Wondermaths portal. This statement covers the Wondermaths portal, its linked games, and downloadable materials. The WordPress Guide blog is a separate interface and has not been covered by the checks described here.

Current status: not fully evaluated for conformance. We do not claim that the whole collection meets WCAG, that it has been independently certified, or that every game is usable with every assistive technology.

Using the portal

  • A skip link leads past navigation to the main content.
  • Pages use headings, labeled fields, and visible keyboard focus.
  • Game pages allow browser zoom. Shared game controls have a high-contrast keyboard focus outline.
  • The book reader offers a Larger text view where page text is available. Available page text is also exposed to screen readers; this does not replace descriptions of illustrations.
  • Navigation, help, and policies are available across the portal.
  • The homepage has no autoplay audio, flashing decoration, or automatic carousel.
  • Layouts adapt to smaller screens, and reduced-motion preferences remove interface transitions.

These features do not establish conformance by themselves. Testing and improvements continue.

Known limitations

  • Some games use canvas, dragging, drawing, or visually positioned objects. Complete keyboard and screen-reader alternatives are not verified across the collection.
  • Audio, motion, and restart controls vary by game. A device’s reduced-motion preference does not establish that every in-game effect is reduced.
  • Some PDFs have untagged pages or text baked into illustrations. They may not be usable in reading order with a screen reader.
  • Ages and completion markers do not assess development or accessibility needs.

Choosing a simpler level does not solve an inaccessible control. Please tell us which interaction is preventing participation.

What has been checked

The portal is being reviewed in a Chromium desktop browser and at a narrow mobile viewport. The review covers navigation, visible focus, content reflow, links, and selected interaction states.

We have not completed a collection-wide assistive-technology audit, a physical-device matrix, or playtesting with disabled children. Game-specific checks must be assessed separately from the portal.

Report a barrier or request another format

Email hallo@wondermaths.app. Include the page or file title, what you were trying to do, and the browser or assistive technology if relevant. You do not need to share a diagnosis.

We will discuss what can be adapted and tell you if an alternative is not yet available. Contact details.
