Welcome to this explainer of the Wonder Mass Parent Companion eBook. We're looking at the "That Didn't Work" section today. So what do we do when that block bridge topples and your child gets upset? It's totally frustrating. Well, our first big takeaway is to simply make room for those feelings. Just pause before you react. Try saying something like, "That didn't go how you wanted. I'm here." Now, our second idea is offering specific help, but only when you know they're actually receptive to it. You may ask, "Want me to hold the board or show one turn?" Just give them clear, simple options. Our third idea is totally fine too. Just allow a pause or even stopping. Stepping away is absolutely okay. You can just tell them, "We can be done for today." That gently takes the pressure right off. Remember, a break doesn't actually have to be earned. That's a super vital nuance for us parents to grasp. And trying again later? That's completely optional. Going back to a frustrating activity is never a strict requirement. Let's think about our own pacing too. If you moved a bit too fast, you can always repair that. You can calmly say, "I rushed you. I'm sorry. Let's slow down." It's honestly such an effective repair. But here's the caveat: No approach prevents every single tear. We have to keep our expectations realistic here. So I'll leave you with this question: Can you pause before fixing and just offer your presence today?
